Crafters and Vendor’s are wanted for our 4th Annual Craft Show! This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 from 9am – 3pm. Applications can be downloaded from our web site, or picked up at the Circulation Desk. Last year the show nearly filled up our parking lot, so get your application in early to guarantee a spot! HOPE. a simple word yet it means so much to someone in need. Donating blood is a simple act that helps save lives. In behalf of the library and the American Red Cross, I thank all the donors who came out to the blood drive on January 17. The American Red Cross collected 17 units of blood. Each unit has the potential to save 3-4 lives. Special thanks goes to our community partner Culver’s of Grayslake, who donated coupons for a free pint of their famous frozen custard to presenting donors. Next blood drive: March 13, 2012. In September 2011, Molli Larson, former employee and President of Friends of the Library passed away. Molli had been a part of the Friends of the Library for over 20 years. She was a strong advocate and supporter of the Library. Molli worked diligently to accomplish many things for the library. In her memory, Friends of the Library along with the Round Lake Area Public Library will be hosting a dedication for her on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the library. Please join with us to remember Molli and let her family know how much we appreciated all the hard work she did for the library. We hope you will be able to attend. Over the past many years, Friends has accomplished a lot for the Round Lake Area Public Library, and hopefully, the library will be able to continue to count on Friends for its support. Friends has conducted book sales, hosted fundraisers, helped with special programs, and held author signings. Now more than ever, Friends are in need of active members. Kill-A-Watt™ Meters from Com Ed: Commonwealth Edison donated two Kill-A-Watt™ meter readers to the Round Lake Area Library as part of the Smart Ideas Initiative.
The Kill-A-Watt is a terrific device to help you reduce your energy use and save money on your power bill. The meter measures the electrical draw of any plug-in device in your home. Simply plug a device into the meter, which will instantly show how much electricity is being consumed. Use this information to control your energy use and electric bill.
The meters can be picked up at the library’s Adult Services Reference Desk and are available to Round Lake residents for one week. The Friends of the Library are gearing up for some fun activities in 2012.
